The Music of Charles Booker, Vol. 4

Composed in the fall of 2007 for orchestra and later wind ensemble, the concerto was commissioned by and dedicated to Dr. Jackie Lamar, professor of saxophone at the University of Central Arkansas. Movement I is a blend of blues, classical and bebop separated by a short soft “lush” section. Movement II laments the loss of a younger brother, and Movement III includes asymmetrical meter, modern and jazz harmonies to say “farewell” to an old friend. This lively and syncopated movement also incorporates a “rock” section with a “cowbell” in attendance. This recording is from a live performance on April 27, 2011 of the Texas State University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Rodney Schueller.

The title track from this disc is available for purchase for both wind ensemble and orchestra.
