Adagio/Allegro “Radiant Blues”

Adagio “Lament

Allegro non troppo “Farewell”

Composed in the fall of 2007, this piece was commissioned by and dedicated to Dr. Jackie Lamar, professor of saxophone at the University of Central Arkansas. Movement I is a blend of blues, classical and bebop separated by a short soft “lush” section. Movement II laments the loss of a younger brother, and Movement III includes asymmetrical meter, modern and jazz harmonies to say “farewell” to an old friend. This lively and syncopated movement also incorporates a “rock” section with a “cowbell” in attendance.

This recording is Dr. Jackie Lamar performing the first movement of the concerto at my Farewell Recital March 10, 2014.
